Day one: Boston to Amsterdam!

April 23, 2012

Harpoon brewer Matt DeLuca (who recently brewed the 100 Barrel Series #40 Black IPA), along with 20 other Harpoon employees, is hanging out in Europe this week! He’ll be blogging about their experience in The Netherlands this week – so stay tuned!

Heading to Amsterdam!

So… maybe 2 months ago (it’s Harpoon tradition to keep everyone blind until the last moment) Rich Doyle, co-founder and CEO of Harpoon Brewery,  announced to the brewery staff  that this year’s Europe trip was heading to the Netherlands…well, Amsterdam to be exact.

And on April 20th.

For those not in the know, Harpoon takes a “beer culture” trip to Europe each year featuring its utmost respected, hard-working, loyal, and flat-out indispensable employees, who happen to be celebrating their 5th anniversary, (and for some their 8, 12, and 17th…) on the job.

The following weeks quickly became full of  outlandish quests: drunken treasure hunts for treasure that hadn’t even been buried yet, adaptation to a land that thrived on tourists’ (Harpoon employees) decadence, and beer we honestly didn’t even know really existed yet…but insisted on finding.

So here we are, pounding the last few beers at our own Tap Room in the beautifully sunny, deep depths of Logan Airport’s Terminal A…marching to the cadence of a blind, but hungry concert director that automatically takes control over you after 5 years of employment…taking pictures of Jaime Schier in front of Jaime Schier.  This truly is the one last outpost that we could truly call home before Europe.  And Bryant East finally showed up!

Until tomorrow…
