Cheers to you – Harpoon beer drinkers!

April 17, 2012

Thank you!

We’re really lucky to have you as a Harpoon beer drinker – not only because we really like you guys, but also because you have helped us become what we are today. Twenty-six years ago, Rich Doyle and Dan Kenary founded Harpoon Brewery, and today we got some great news – we are now the 8th largest craft beer maker (and 15th largest overall brewery) in the USA, according to the Brewers Association!

In our first year of brewing, we brewed 1,300 barrels of beer. By 2011, that number has jumped up to 175,000 barrels.

Without you, and your interest in craft beer, we would not be here… and neither would many other craft breweries.

The Brewers Association is a not-for-profit organization that keeps track of production statistics for all the breweries in the USA. Fun fact? They report that of the 50 largest breweries in the country, 36 of them are now craft breweries.

“In the last 15 years, craft brewing has gone from one percent of the overall beer market to almost six percent in 2011,” said Paul Gatza, director of the Brewers Association. “We attribute a large part of that growth to the many talented brewers who are providing beer lovers with more beer style and flavor choices than ever before.”

We strive to make the best products that are available to you, craft beer drinker, and you have spoken loudly by demanding some of your favorites back and continuing to purchase local craft beers no matter where you are.

So for that, we raise a pint of Harpoon IPA  to you – the craft beer drinker – who gave us the chance to grow, prosper and become what we are today.

Love Beer. Love Craft. Harpoon
