Harpoon Helps Cleans Up for Earth Day!

May 6, 2010

For the past two Saturdays, April 24th and May 1st, Harpoon Helpers celebrated the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day with two Harpoon Helps missions. For the first, in Newport, RI, we teamed up with Save the Bay, a Rhode Island-based organization dedicated to protecting, restoring and improving the ecological health of the Narragansett Bay region. We had 78 of our employees, customers, and friends join us, and ended up picking up 415 pounds of trash! That is 415 pounds that will NOT be floating into our precious water system!

After the mission, Harpoon employees and volunteers went to Pour Judgment, a great beer bar on lower Broadway in Newport, to celebrate with pints of Belgian Pale Ale, Oyster Stout, and some snacks. Despite it being a bit chilly early in the morning, we were thrilled with the turnout of volunteers, and plan on doing another beach clean-up in the area very soon! Check out the photos of our volunteers and all of the trash we collected!

We kept the Earth Day fun going with another mission on May 1st near our Windsor, VT brewery. For this one, we teamed up with Green Up Vermont, a non-profit dedicated to promoting the stewardship of Vermont state’s natural landscape and waterways and the livability of its communities. We participated in their annual Green Up Day by inviting Friends of Harpoon to help us clean up Route 5 near our brewery in Windsor. Afterwards, we cheers with Harpoon beers and sandwiches at our brewery’s beer garden, Harpoon Riverbend Taps. Among the most interesting things found were 4 large tires! It was a beautiful day to be outside, enjoy the sunshine, and help make Vermont a little greener!

Interested in joining us for another great mission to give back to your community? Or have an idea for another volunteer opportunity? Please visit www.HarpoonHelps.com. We hope to volunteer with you soon!

Cheers!
