Harpoon Helps Support our Troops!

March 16, 2010

On February 24th, Harpoon hosted a Troop Supply Drive and Celtic Ale tasting in the brewery tap room in Boston. For the second year in a row, we invited Friends of Harpoon to come try our recently-released Spring seasonal beer, Celtic Ale, and to bring donations with them that we could send to the men and women of our armed forces who are currently deployed.

This all started a year ago when my brother, Ryan, a Captain in the Marine Corps, was on his second deployment to Iraq. I manage the Harpoon Helps program, which is the charitable arm of the Harpoon Brewery, so we decided to make this a Harpoon Helps mission! We thought it would be a good idea to get our Friends together to collect items to send to Ryan to share with his platoon. Since last year went so well, and we were able to fill and send 50 packages, we thought we would do it again in 2010!

My brother is currently on his third deployment, this time in Afghanistan, but is towards the end of his time there, so we thought we would send some packages to him and open it up to some other troops. This year, we sent packages to 13 men and women deployed to Afghanistan, Iraq, and Haiti. Check out all of the packages!

I just heard from Ryan this morning that the packages are starting to arrive! He is thrilled with the amount of books, magazines, puzzles, snacks, and toiletries he received, and wanted to say THANK YOU! to everyone that contributed. I am so proud of the Friends of Harpoon and Harpoon employees that contributed to this great cause. Thank you to you all!

We have a few great Harpoon Helps events coming up. To see what Harpoon Helps has planned, visit http://www.harpoonhelps.com. I hope to volunteer and have a beer with you very soon!
